Sausage Egg and Cheese Crescent Rolls

Sausage Egg and Cheese Crescent Rolls

If you’re looking for sausage egg and cheese crescent rolls, this is a tube of reduced-fat crescent dough, scrambled eggs, cooked turkey sausage links, and cheddar, rolled and baked at 350°F 14–17 minutes until golden. Reserve a tablespoon of beaten egg to brush the tops. Dest uses fully cooked turkey sausage — you still heat it. This is not buffalo chicken crescent ring. Different filling, different shape.

Ingredients 🛒

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 (8-ounce) can refrigerated crescent rolls (dest used reduced-fat Pillsbury)
  • 8 fully cooked breakfast turkey sausage links
  • 4 slices reduced-fat cheddar, halved
  • Salt and pepper

Fully cooked sausage links. Dest brand was Jennie-O. Raw sausage has to be cooked through first (165°F for turkey). Don’t wrap raw links in dough and hope 17 minutes is enough in the cold center.

4 eggs, reserve 1 tablespoon raw for the brush. The rest get scrambled. That’s not a lot of egg per roll — a spoonful, not an omelet.

4 slices cheese, cut in half = 8 pieces, one per triangle.

Regular crescent dough works if you don’t have reduced-fat. It browns a little faster — check at 14.

Equipment

A skillet for eggs (and sausage if they need heating). A parchment-lined sheet. 350°F. Pastry brush or a spoon for the egg wash.

How to Make It 👩‍🍳

Heat oven to 350°F. Beat the eggs. Scoop out 1 tablespoon and set it aside. Scramble the rest in a skillet until just set — they’ll bake again. Salt and pepper. If the sausage is fridge-cold, warm the links.

Parchment on the sheet. Unroll dough, separate into 8 triangles, lay them out.

Half-slice of cheese on each triangle. A spoon of scrambled egg. One sausage link. Start at the wide end, roll over once, then wrap the skinny point around. They will look ugly. Fine.

Brush with reserved egg. Salt and pepper on top.

Bake 14–17 minutes until golden. If the bottoms are pale and the tops are dark, the rack was too high. Center rack. Cool 2 minutes so cheese isn’t lava.

Why the Technique Works

Scramble first. Raw egg under crescent dough stays wet in the middle while the pastry browns. Dest is cooked eggs, then bake.

Reserve egg for the wash is shine and glue. Milk wash is paler. Skipping it is still a roll, just dull.

Wide end first so the sausage is wrapped, not poking out like a bone. Dest even says they never look right. Bake them anyway.

14–17 minutes at 350°F is a small roll, not a ring. The buffalo crescent ring is a different clock.

Cooking Tips

Don’t over-scramble into rubber before they go in the oven. Soft set.

If dough is sticky, a little flour on your fingers. Don’t twist it into breadsticks.

Variations and Substitutions

Pork sausage links: cook through first. Different fat, still 165°F if it’s ground turkey/chicken sausage; pork sausage links cook to 160°F if fresh.

No sausage: more egg and cheese. Then it’s a breakfast roll, not this dest.

Full-fat crescents and cheddar: richer, same method, watch the 14-minute mark.

Serving Suggestions

Fruit. Hot sauce. That’s enough.

Storage, Freezing & Reheating

Fridge 3 days. Reheat 325°F or toaster oven. Microwave makes the dough tough.

Freeze baked rolls up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge, reheat oven. Don’t freeze raw filled dough unless you like wet bottoms.

Troubleshooting

Soggy bottom: wet scrambled eggs, or no parchment on a dark pan. Drain eggs, parchment, center rack.

Burst seams: too much filling. A spoon of egg, one link, half slice of cheese.

Dough raw inside: oven low, or rolls packed together. 350°F, space them, give it the full 17.

Burnt tips: skinny points sitting up. Tuck them under.

Ugly: dest problem too. Eat them.

Final Thoughts

Scramble the eggs, wrap cheese and a cooked link, 350°F until gold. If they look like a bakery ad, you got lucky. If they don’t, they’re still breakfast.
